Cribbage board on manzanita


I made this for my stepdad for his birthday.

I'm not really a woodworker, so in order to do it I had to learn to use the following tools:

Table saw
Drill Press
Band saw (which I broke twice in the process)
Router
Wood glue (yes, the damn thing cracked and I almost gave up)

I spent about a week and a half up in my uncle's workshop and had LOTS of his help doing it. I didn't have time to learn to use the lathe well enough to turn something so small, so he turned the bottom of the pegs. The pegs are also out of manzanita, the white ones are from the outer edges of the wood.

I don't have any wood burning tools, so I used Peter's soldering irons (thankfully he had one with a pointed tip and one with a flat tip) to burn the picture which I modified to look like his dog, Maggie. I had a lot of fun with it...I think I'd like to play with some proper wood burning tools.

Also...it is an arrowhead NOT a Christmas tree!
